Community [ kuh-myoo-ni-tee ]

… a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality

We all live in communities and something magical happens when events bring the people who inhabit a community together.

We were fortunate enough to have been asked by Silver Springs Community Association,

to coordinate an event that would help bring people together – the Annual Parade of Garage Sales.

When you think ‘garage sale’, a complete plethora of images come to mind, from professionals looking to buy and sell antiques and valuables down to someone hoping to unload their basement of the ‘purge’ pile. And whatever your image about a garage sale, it’s all true. That’s the beauty of a garage sale. Everyone has a different reason for opening their driveway and garage up or for driving from one house to another.

Sure, there are people popping in, looking for a bargain. There are also people in need hoping to find something that would otherwise be out of their price range. And there are people needing to rid themselves of stuff, whether to make space or to prepare for a house sale.

The real value is the sense of community that can be developed. The shared cup of coffee with a new neighbor while the sun is shining, and the kids play. An opportunity to walk across the street and meet the new person on the corner. A chance to put a name and voice to faces you may see walk by every day, and now have an excuse to meet.

Those are the values of a parade of garage sales.

And the community association entrusted us to make the Parade of Garage Sales a success.

A lot of planning went into the big day. Ordering enough signs for everyone, delivering signs to participants along with a goody bag of supplies to help. Community billboards, social media marketing, and going around the neighborhood to make sure every participant had directional signage to market their sale.

Like everything we try to do in business, we didn’t go halfhearted into it. The community association was banking on us.

Was it a success?

You bet!

Over 70 participants registered. You couldn’t drive around the community without being directed to another opportunity. We had overwhelmingly positive feedback from people thankful to have sold more than they hoped for, and even some handwritten thank you notes!

Now you may be wondering why we went through all the effort to go above and beyond what others have done in the past or in other communities.

Why do it at all?

Our team made a commitment a long time ago. If we were going to invest in advertising and marketing, let’s do it to add value AND to show we are a different kind of real estate team.

It’s easy to spend money on flashy ads and catch phrases.

But it’s far more important to show people the quality of effort we put into everything.

We hope that huge difference in quality, attention to detail and personal touch with the community will encourage people to give us a chance to bring that same energy and quality when they are choosing an agent to work with when buying and selling homes.

We showed the results with the parade of garage sales. And it brought people together as a community.

And we were grateful for the invite to support our community!
